Derrick has worked in the financial industry for 8 years… just not in a row. 

He originally entered finance as a bank teller with RBC, cashing cheques and stamping deposits.  The mobility clause of the bank meant Derrick was relocated to High Prairie for 3 years where he cut his teeth on lending and mutual fund investing. The world of banking ultimately lacked the autonomy and freedom that Derrick was really looking for in a career and in 2006 Derrick moved back to Grande Prairie to start his own general contracting business. 

For the next 12 years, Derrick's world consisted of home-building and family-building. Those years would prove invaluable when Derrick transitioned back into financial planning in 2018.  The early days of door-to-door insurance sales quickly turned into an opportunity to work for and purchase assets from local financial advisors. 

Fast forward to today where Derrick is a partner at Myers Benefit Consulting, an insurance and investment brokerage that focuses primarily on group insurance and RSPs. Derrick’s vision is to communicate financial planning in a way that is simple, interesting, and fun.  Demystifying the graphs and unpuzzling the plan.  That’s the goal of every meeting.  The secret to money is not in how much you make but in how much you keep. Derrick wants to help you make more and keep more so you can give more!
